Monday

Was really tired today. Tidied the kitchen, then went to Macy's to get some new juice glasses, Costco to price party trays, and Sweet Tomatoes for lunch. That was it.
Otherwise, justed rested. Scrapbooked a little.
Nancy Vincent brought over a tater tot casserole, a salad, some jello, foccacia bread, and some cake. I got out some extra virgin olive oil and added some dipping spices for the foccacia bread, which I'd warmed in the oven. DD1 really liked it -- tore off 5 or 6 pieces of bread to dip in the oil. I found out she does NOT like croutons -- she delicately picked them out of her salad before eating it....DD2 ate everything, no problem.
My feet are still swollen, and bathroom issues are raising their head, again, which is odd. I figured we'd be done with that SE by now.

Lazy Day

Slept late, puttered around here, got philly cheese steak and salad for lunch, then to the pool for a while till i got tired out. thought i was safe from sunburn since i was under the awning. alas, no, my left shoulder was apparently getting sun as it is bright red now....

Man!

I thought I was done with the chemo side effects. Someone forgot to tell my feet, though, because they look like big ole flesh-colored pillows at the end of my ankles.
Boring day yesterday, mostly. I couldn't drive yet, so Mike drove us to a local Japanese restaurant, where we had California rolls, yakatori chicken, vegetable tempura, and edamame.
Target, Petsmart for cat and puppy food, then home as I was tuckered out.
I actually made supper though! Sloppy joes, corn on the cob, and watermelon. And I even tidied the kitchen afterward -- I must be feeling better!

Foooooood

Melissa brought over food last night. Fabulous food. Fettucine with a creamy marinara sauce, a salad chockful of vegetables, one of those creamy orange/pineapple salady things, bread, and this fabulous pumpkin bundt cake. I have had 3 pieces so far. Truly, I found myself looking at the clock last night, trying to figure out when I would be hungry enough to justify having another piece of cake.
She also (!) made a breakfast casserole, which I just had a piece of, with a pumpkin cake chaser.

Pics From the Bookstore on Harry Potter Night

Yes, it was crowded! I'm not sure why the HP glasses they handed out were white, but oh well.

Rebel!

I really am a rebel. During my pre-op conversation with the nurse at the surgery center on Wednesday, she told me:
1. No makeup
2. No jewelry
3. No contacts
4. No eating after midnight

What? How am I supposed to look fabulous without makeup, jewelry, or contacts? That's a sight I usually reserve only for my immediate family, because they have to love me no matter what I look like. Plus, someone tell me what difference it's going to make if my eyelashes are 1/8" long or 1/4" long.
And, my surgery was (supposed to be) at 10:00. (It ended up being at 11:20.) It was originally to be on the 3rd at 7:00 a.m. And you know they would have told me no eating after midnight for the 7:00 time, too. So, really, I had until 3 am to eat or drink. I had some sugarfree chocolate milk at half past midnight and felt like a big ole rebel.
And I wore mascara and lip gloss to the surgery center, ditto.

Most. Uncomfortable. Conversation. Ever.

DD1: (holding a condom she found in my bedside drawer) What's this?
Me: I am not going to tell you.
D: Why?
ME: Because it's not something little girls need to know about.
D: Why?
Me: Because it isn't.
D: But what is it for?
Me: I am not going to tell you.
D: Is it for men or women?
Me: It's for married couples.
D: What letter does it start with?
Me: I am not going to tell you.
D: What's one of the letters in the middle?
Me: I am not going to tell you.
D: Please?
Me: No.
D: Pretty please?
Me: No.
D: Will you tell me when I'm eight?
Me: No. I will tell you when you're twelve.
D: Will you tell me when I'm twenty?
Me: Yes.
D: Then I'm going to sit here until I'm twelve.
Me: Fine. Have fun scrounging for food until then.

There was a lot more badgering on her part. I've condensed the whole conversation in order to spare you. I felt like a broken record, just saying "No" and "I am not going to tell you" over and over again. Argh!

Portless

I am now wihtout a port! Went in at 9 today, the surgery was to be at 10. Of course, things were running late, and I didn't go into the OR till after 11. It's so freaky waking up in the recovery room, though, when one doesn't remember falling asleep...
I was STARVING, so Mike and the girls took me to La Madeleine for some soup.
I feel fine, though. The surgery itself took all of ten minutes. I sneaked a peek at the records while I was in the recovery room.

84 Cent Hot Dogs!

Today is 84 Cent Hot Dog Day at James Coney Island. You know we were there for lunch. The three of us ate for $8 -- reminds me of those halycon days when the girls were still little and ate for free at Cici's pizza.

Insert Wiity Title Here

Took a nap yesterday morning, and then the girls and I went to see Surf's Up at Katy Mills mall. The movie was ok. Instead of a straight narrative, the movie's conceit was that it was about a documentary crew filming a movie about a famous penguin surfer. DD1 didn't like the documentary part of it. I didn't like the occasional inappropriate line, e.g. Chicken Joe says, "He's around here somewhere, I can feel it in my nuggets." Really? You thought that was an appropriate thing for a children's movie?
Came back to our side of town for DD2's OT appointment. The thing about that is, the appointment is 30 minutes long now. (Thanks, United Healthcare!) The OT place is 5 minutes from our house, but really, what are you going to do at home for 20 minutes? There aren't any fast food places around there, and there's not much to do in the waiting room...
Did the dishes and tidied the house a bit, as one of DH's objections to us getting a bigger house is that I don't keep this one clean...
Dropped the girls off at Barbara's house (Girls: YAY! Barbara's house!) and met Debbie at McCormick and Schmick, a seafood restaurant near her work. I'd never been there and always wanted to go. Turns out it is an Expensive Restaurant, like, average of $20 for an entree. So we split an appetizer and an entree.
Then we went to the movie theatre to see Hairspray, and yes, though I had just eaten, I still bought popcorn and a drink. Luckily, I have friends who willingly join me in my freakiness.
Me: I'm going to get popcorn and a drink.
Debbie: Me, too!
So we each got a "small" drink (24 oz, at least) and shared a medium popcorn.
The movie was cute. Very infectious songs.

Boring

It occurs to me that the blog has become a bit boring lately. sorry.

here's a funny story.

DD2 goes to Mothers' Day Out the other Friday with her lunch in a PowerPuff Girls lunch box, but it turns out it's Chicken Nugget Day, so she has nuggets and doesn't eat her lunch. She forgets to bring her lunch home, so it sits there all weekend long. Monday, she comes back to Mothers' Day Out with another packed lunch, in a princess lunch box. We are talking that evening, and she mentions something about the PowerPuff Girls lunch box. And it turns out SHE ATE THE LUNCH FROM FRIDAY, including a baloney and ketchup sandwich. And she was fine. No vomiting, nothing. We are calling her Cast Iron Stomach Girl from now on.

Hello, Insomnia!

Took DD2 to her Social Skills Workshop at 4, which necessitated me changing out of my pajamas, dang it.
DD1 and I got a pedicure two doors down during the workshop, then we all went to the pool. My energy level plummeted around 6, but I'd promised the girls we could stay until 7, so we left at 7, delivered some diapers to Julie the Pregnant Wonder, and then came home, where I stirfried some chicken and veggies for supper, and then basically rested and fell asleep. Woke up around 3, with my contacts still in. Peeled them out of my eyes, and have been awake ever since.
My eyes have been watering ever since as well. They are Not Happy about the whole sleeping in the contacts thing.

Today

I can always tell that I'm feeling better, because I make a to do list. The days I don't feel good, there ain't no to do list being produced, 'cause ain't nothing getting done.
I made a to do list today with about 12 things on it. I've done about four. Three of them were phone calls. The other was "Charge phone". But still! Got something done!

Not Exactly Caparaesque, but...

I'm at Hobby Lobby today, buying the orange construction paper, ebony design pencils and (4) .77 oz Elmer's glue sticks, and the cashier says, "You know, you can get these glue sticks a lot cheaper at Walmart."
"Really?' quoth I. "Because I need this size, and this is the first place I've found them."
"Yep. Bins and bins of them."
So, I didn't get them there. I don't like Walmart, for various reasons, but I thought that was really kind of her. Reminded me of the scene from Miracle on 34th Street.

I Finished The Book!

Finally finished the last Harry Potter book this afternoon. Aaaah. A good read. I tried to finish it last night, but was so tired, kept nodding off every second sentence.
Pain in my left side is gone! Buh-bye!
Bathroom issues are still in play, but not as bad.

The bookstore Friday night was fun. Tons of people, some in costume. Little games you could play, and so on. Deanna and I wandered around, got our pic taken with the Harry Potter cutout, got a drink from the Starbucks stand, bought a book each, and then sat down in the greeting card section to read and wait. We were in the 4th group, which got to get in line at 12:15, and we were out of there by 12:30. I read about 20 pages before falling asleep.

Saturday, I loaded the dishwasher and tidied the kitchen, and took the girls to Chuck E Cheese for a birthday party. Other than that, I read the HP book.

Sunday, we didn't go to church, as I didn't want to have to run to the bathroom in the middle of the sermon. We went to a birthday party in the afternoon. I read for a couple of hours, but I had to tidy the house so Digna could clean today.

Ran errands today. Really tired. Going to go rest.

Can't chat now, I'm off to read the final HP book!

Latest Chemo Moment

I went to check my land line call notes from my cell phone, and it asked for my number, and I put in Debbie's phone number.

It's Official!

I got the confirmation today: the BuhBye Chemo Party is on! August 11th from 5 to 7 at the Wortham Pool. An evite will be going out shortly.
We will have to be a bit sneaky, though. They're limiting me to Thirty Official Guests, which, hello, thirty? Thirty is nothing! So, those guests who live in Wortham will just Happen To Come To The Pool on the day, and be like, hey! ChemoGirl, you're having a party?

Friday

The used uniform sale at DD2's school was this morning at 9. Each used uniform has an envelope attached to it with the seller's name and the price (e.g. $4), so what you are supposed to do is pick out the uniforms you want, and then put cash in the respective envelopes and turn the envelopes in.
This would require having lots of 5s and 1s. Which would require going to the bank yesterday. Which I didn't.
So, this morning the DDs and I went to the ATM, which cheerfully dispensed some 20s. Then we went to the grocery store, and each DD bought a Lunchable with a $20 and gave me the change. Then we went to the donut shop, and each DD bought a kolache and milk with a $20 and gave me the change.
I dropped the DDs off at Deanna's house, and went on to the sale. It wasn't quite the madhouse I had anticipated, and they didn't have a ton of jumpers in the style and size that DD2 needs, but I got some shirts, 2 Friday shirts, 3 jumpers and 2 skorts. They had a new uniform sale, too, so I bought 2 new jumpers and a Field Shirt (not sure what that is, but she needed it). The nice lady who helped me filled out the sales slip by hand so I wouldn't have to wait in line to check out, as the checkout line was moving nowhere fast.
Then went to Barnes and Noble and got a wristband for the Harry Potter book sale tonight. Deanna and I are in the 4th group, so the lady said we'd probably get to buy our book by 12:30.
Went to Jason's and ate a bowl of broccoli cheese soup. Was still hungry. Went back up to the counter and bought a cup of tomato basil soup.
Came home and rested.

This Doesn't Have Anything To Do With Chemo, But It's A Cool Quote

"God, who needs nothing, loving into existence wholly superfluous creatures in order that He may love and perfect them. God did not make us because He was bored, lonely, or had run out of things to do. He created us to be the objects of His love. Sometimes our actions make us unlovely, but we are never unloved. And because God loves us - we have value. And nobody can take that value away. God's love revealed at Calvary fastens itself onto flawed creatures like us, and for reasons none of us can ever quite figure out, makes us precious and valued beyond calculation. This is love beyond reason. And this is the love with which God loves us."

Today

Feeling slightly better today.
I was out this morning with Bella TPM when this really nice couple stopped their brisk walk to talk to me. They'd both had cancer, so they wanted to encourage me that it will get better. It was really nice, esp since I didn't know them from Adam.
Dropped the girls off at the Cannons' house, and then as i had ~1 hour to kill before my onc appt, I went to Office Max for school supplies for DD2. this was only partially successful, as they were all out of 24 count Crayola crayons, having had a sale on them for nice cents apiece. Plus, some of the things on the list -- ebony drawing pencil, storage box, etc. -- just not carried at Office Max, but i had a $5 off coupon, so i wanted to get at least some of the supplies there so i could Save Money.
Went to onc's ofc. Wait wasn't too bad, maybe 35 minutes. Uneventful. He basically said I need to exercise at least 6 hours a week from now on to prevent further reaccurnce. I need to schedule the BRCA test, which is a special genetic test to see if u carry the gene for ovarian cancer. I'm adopted, so my genetic background is a big black hole.
Went to Pancho's for lunch. Pancho's is a (surprise!) Mexican cafeteria chain, where you get your food from the cafeteria line, and then if you need more food later, you raise a little flag on your table, and a lady comes by and sees what you want and goes and gets it for you. The only thing I wanted from there was calabacitas, which is basically zucchini soup: water, zucchini, corn, tomatoess, and spices. I got other stuff on my plate, of course: beans and rice, beef and cabbage, an enchilada.
The tally at the end of the meal?
enchilada: one bite
beef and cabbage: one bite
beans: four bites
calabacitas: 3 separate helpings

I would venture to guess I was probably the only customer the lady'd ever had who ordered 3 helpings of calabacitas. It just tasted so good. I'm still in the soft food phase of past-chemo.
Of course, I had a sopapilla for dessert. Yum.
Went to Target afterward for the rest of the school supplies, and had to rush back to the bathroom TWICE while I was there. Guess that was my brisk walk for the day. And yes, the school supplies are in the opposite corner of the store from the bathroom. Handy!
And I still don't have all those dang school supplies. The school wants "1 small Sterilite plastic supply box (4 qt. size)". Target has an extensive Sterilite offering. Starting at the 6 quart size.
The school also wants "6 elmer's glue sticks (.77 oz.)" I couldn't find .77 oz size. Can I just buy 4.62 oz of random glue sticks and call it good?

Pic From My Bday

thought i'd show you a couple of pics from my bday. i wore hair, since we were going out for a special occasion. the girls gave me candles for presents. i'll take a pic of my new bike one of these days and post it here.
Note: I did NOT get any clothes from Chico's, in case you were wondering. This was a random sack a Friend With Food transported food in, and DH thought it looked like a worthy birthday sack.

In Line at the Harry Potter Movie

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
Dragana is on the left, Deanna on the right.
Dragana's not even that much of a HP freak, but she willingly went with us. Her college-aged son was jealous of her getting to see it so soon! We got there at 11:20 for the 12:02 showing, and were almost at the back of the line. We got pretty good seats, tho, and were able to sit together. It was a good movie -- vastly better than #4.

More of Today

rested this morning, then went to lunch with DH. all i wanted was broccoli cheese soup from applebee's. i finished my "bowl", and wanted more, so DH gave me his. (aw)
swung by walmart for a new mouse, then to the surgeon for a followup visit. surgeon does not think the accelerated partial breast radiation is a good idea in my case, so i will probably have the traditional 6.5 week radiation. sigh.
need to have my port removed. surgeon suggested this friday. i said no. this friday is harry potter day -- the last harry potter book comes out. surgeon suggested the 27th. i said no. debbie and i are going on a girls night out that night. so, august 3rd it is. 7:30 a.m.
should take about 15 minutes, he said. yeah, we'll see.

Another Eh Night

Sleeping, waking up and running to bathroom.
DH is staying home today to help out! so that'll be fun. i sent him to the grocery store to buy yogurt, because the active cultures in yogurt will hopefully calm things down. of course he came home with other stuff besides yogurt, but oh well.

Today

Rested, watched TV, went to the bathroom.
Girls spent the day with the Rosskes. I picked them up around 4, as DD2 had a social skills workshop to attend. Afterward, we managed to buy a swimsuit and a lunch box at Target, and 2 swimsuits at Kohl's before having to head home.
soup for supper, more lying down and watching tv.

Answer: Diarrhea, Hot Flashes and Stepping In Warm Cat Poop

Question: What was last night like for you, Chemogirl?

p.s. Welcome back, pain in the left side! We missed you! Not.

Today

There's nothing quite like being ten minutes away from home and having your body tell you You Need To Get To a Bathroom Right Away.
i'd driven first of all to the little cajun restaurant around the corner for some bisque, but alas, they are closing to become Another Mexican Restaurant.
So I drove to Boston Market for some Chicken Tortilla Soup. And on the way home, my body decided it was time for things to start moving.
I made it in time, tho. Yay.
Spent the rest of the day resting, really. Girls got home and promptly went across the street to play. Darcy and Greg bought over pasta and corn on the cob, both of which were yummy.
A neighbor stopped by and asked if Digna (Deen-ya) my housekeeper had any free days, so we went over to his house so she could give him a quote. She doesn't speak English, and he doesn't speak Spanish, so I "translated." My Spanish is the "Me talk pretty one day" sort, but I get the point across. There are some times Digna will just blablablablablablabla and I have NO idea what she's talking about. So I just give her the deer in the headlights look, and we figure it out.
Going to go lie down again. Lying down is fun.

Chemo Insomnia

...strikes again. This is partly due to my stomach hurting. Hard to sleep when your stomach hurts.
On the plus side, I almost have DD2's 5 year-old scrapbook done. Had to quit cuz I ran out of blank pages....

The Scary Part

OK, chemo has been sucky, by and large, (except for the support of all of you.)
Now the scary part begins.
Chemo was like this uncomfortable shield. Not pleasant to have around, but a protection nonetheless. Now it's gone.
Now, the trusting God part begins in earnest. Because even if I eat right and exercise every day for the rest of my life, nothing says the cancer won't come back one day.
So, pray that I can keep my eyes on Jesus and trust in His unfailing love for me.

Nothing Much Going On

Slept, Scrapbooked, watched TV.
Swelling has gone down on feet, so that's a good thing.
Probably need to take a laxative.

Saturday, July 14, 2007

Friday

got the tetanus shot, ouch, picked up a basket for dog toys and some more dog toys so hopefully Bella TPM will quit chewing on everything else in sight.
Slept and watched TV.
Chris dropped off the girls around 5:30. They had gone swimming AND eaten McDonalds! So it was a good day.
Woke up ~ 4 a.m. and scrapbooked till abou t 6:30, when the rest of the fam woke up. Went back to sleep around 7.
Woke up around 11, tidied the kitchen.
Going to go back to bed now.

Post Chemo, Day 2

Got the girls ready to go to Fun Days (a mothers' day out kind of a deal where they go to a nearby church and play from 9:30 to 2:30). Deanna came by and picked them up.
I just stepped on a brad that was sticking up from a piece of quarter round that had come off in the kitchen, so now i'm freaking out that i might get lockjaw. i have a call in to my PCP to see if I can get a tetanus shot.

Day 1 Post Chemo, Continued

Had that watery spaghetti with bland sauce from Fazoli's for lunch that is somehow so appealing to my chemo mouth.
Slept and watched tv till lori arrived, then we swung by a grocery store to get bread, gatorade, and cookies.
Went to red oak, which was pretty deserted. got the shot, gave the nurses the cookies as a thank you. rang the "Chemo is Over" bell vigorously on my way out. The nurses and staff clapped for me!
Went by the bike shop to get the Discover Card i'd left when i bought my bike (chemo brain strikes again!), and then the insurance agent to give them the updated appraisal of my wedding ring set. Then home, and more sleeping.
chicken noodle soup for supper. girls came home, had a great time at the Gregurek's house. They went bowling and everything!
more sleeping and watching tv.
DH has started letting his hair grow. I hope to join him very soon.

Day 1, Post Chemo

Slept ok today. Feel heavy, tired, and need to stay near a bathroom.
The girls are spending the day at a friends' house, and DH is working from home, so he can scramble me an egg for lunch or whatever.
Lori is coming this afternoon to take me to Read oak for the Last Neulasta Shot.
Going to go to bed now.

It's Over!

My last chemo is officially done! Of course, it wouldn't be a chemo tx at Northwest Cancer Center if you didn't have to wait. Dragana picked me and the girls up at 8:40, we dropped the girls off at Deanna's house, and then Dragana and I continued on to the Red Oak office. Got there right at 9:15.
15 minutes for the blood work
30 minutes waiting in the waiting room
45 minutes waiting in the treatment room
3 hours + for the chemo

In the nurses' defense, they were really busy. Pretty much every chair was full, and there were only two of them: Funny Nurse and Serious Nurse.
But, when Drag and I left at 8:40, we thought we'd be home before THREE.
Anyway. I'm done with chemo! Woohoo! Now just Neulasta tomorrow, and rads next month.

Update

Lady at the onc's ofc didn't know what the deal was, she was just told to switch locations for everyone. Fine. So Dragana and I are going first thing so we can get there by 9:15.
Ran errands today: picked up the Harry Potter movie tickets, got DH's car waxed, picked up my anti-throwup meds, and bought my birthday bike! I'll post a picture of it soon. I found it at REI on Saturday. It's a bike specifically made for women and it's got suspension under the seat and cool stuff like that.
Dragana has a 6 mile bike route through the neighborhood that she's going to show me, so that'll be cool.
Just got back from the Harry Potter movie. We got there ~ 11:20 and were probably 150th in line. There were three showings: 12:01, 12:02 and 12:03, which were all sold out. We got to sit together, 4 rows from the front, so not bad. Good movie. They did a good job condensing the book and getting all the main points in, tho i did miss not seeing the Quiddich games. Wish it could have been a 6 hour miniseries kind of a thing....

Tuesday, July 10, 2007

We had it all planned out, Dragana and I. Midnight movie tonight, then at the Cypress onc's bright and early Wednesday morning, so she could have plenty of time to get to her outpatient surgery at 3.
But no.
Why would they make it easy on us?
I get a v/m yesterday from the onc's office, and sure enough, they want us to go to Red Oak. This is going to mess everything up. Because her surgery was going to be on the second floor of the same office building of my onc there in Cypress.
So I'm going to call the onc today and see what the deal is.
Sorry I haven't posted in a few days. Nothing interesting or funny has happened.
Sunday: church, then we went to a salad bar place, as the bible story for DD2 was the story of how Daniel ate water and "vegebals" (this is how DD2 pronounces it) and was healthier than the other kids. Came home and quickly took off my $13 Payless kitten heels as they were killing my feet. Not only because my feet look like puffy flesh-colored pillows these days, but as my friend Linda says, with shoes you get what you pay for. Went to a jewelry sample sale at Jill's house, where, I'm not kidding I found exactly what I was looking for. At 50% off!
Then we went to the pool and met Katie, DD1's BFF and her family there.
Monday, kids had a summer Mothers' Day Out thing. In the morning, I had to tidy so the housekeeper could clean. Then Linda picked me up in her snazzy new minivan and we went to ChickFila for lunch so her son could play while we chatted.
Came home with a sandwich for DH, as he'd stayed home with a migraine. Chatted with him for a while, then took Bella The Pooping Machine, picked up the girls, and went to the vet so Bella TPM could get her shots.
In the evening we met Katie and company at the pool and ordered pizza. Papa John's had a buy 3 mediums for $21, so we got cheese for DD2, Katie and Jake, BBQ for Robin and DD1, and a Terri Special for me. (pepperoni, sausage, onion and tomato).
Last night, DD1 fell asleep on the couch around 9 ish. She wakes up around 10, crying. Can't tell us why. OK. DH goes back to bed, and DD1 comes into my parlour so she can lie on the couch while I play that game on Webkinz.com. After about 5 minutes, she starts crying again. And I am not kidding when I tell you that over the next 30 minutes she starts crying 5 separate times for 5 separate reasons, including the fact that she wants me to have long hair again. I offer her a sop in the form of future hair extensions. This is Not Good Enough. Finally, DH comes in to see what her deal is, because she keeps waking him up. Then she starts crying because of his tone of voice.
For those of you without daughters, this is known as the I'm So Tired I'll Cry At The Drop of A Hat syndrome. So, we went into her bedroom and I lay beside her for a few minutes until I hear this little whisper, "Mommy, you can go now."
This morning, Bella TPM has pooped 4 times. Once outside.

Saturday, July 7, 2007

The four of us went to Target, Costco, and to lunch at a BBQ restaurant. This was unusual. Usually DH takes the girls on a Target run and then brings home breakfast. So, we spent about 3,4 hours in family togetherness. It wa nice.
Came home and scrapbooked. I know, I've been doing a lot of that lately, but I want to do as much as I can while I still feel good. I got DD1's 6 year-old scrapbook done, and am over halfway done with DD2's 5 year-old book.
Oh! We did go to a sporting goods store, too, and I got this cooling rag for when I have hot flashes! It's awesome!

Friday

Took DD2 to the OT. The session lasted only half an hour, as United Healthcare has decided it's not going to pay for hourly sessions anymore. The copay is the same, but now it's for half an hour. $25 for 30 minutes. What a bargain!
Afterward, the girls and I went to Memorial City Mall for lunch and a few carousel rides, and then we went to look at school uniforms for DD2, who will be attending private school in the fall. DH called and asked us to pick him up downtown as he was ready to leave.
The area around the mall is under construction, and it was raining. Again. For the 400th day in a row. So it took a while to even get on to I10. And then once we got onto I10, traffic was ekeing along at about 20 mph. Not a fun drive. Plus, downtown makes me nervous with the one way streets and the pedestrians and the killer buses and its construction, which seems neverending.
Got home, ordered food from PeiWei, and scrapbooked the rest of the evening.
Except for playing a couple of games on Webkinz. Webkinz is this website that you access once you buy a Webkinz stuffed animal. The girls each have a few Webkinz, so every day I log on as one of them, and earn them some Webkinz cash so they can buy stuff for their online stuffed animal. I got up to level 9 on Quizzy's Word Challenge! It's like Boggle, only harder. Seriously. They want you to make a word out of 7 vowels, a couple of Ks, a J and a Q. Ha!

A New One

I thought I'd seen it all. I was wrong.
Got a letter today from Ingenix Subrogation Services. Apparently, my poor insurance company, after years of no claims from us at all, is desperately trying to find someone else to pay for the barrage of breast cancer treatment bills. Early on in the process, we got a letter from them asking hopefully, "Is Terri covered by any other insurance?"
Now we get this letter from Ingenix that says, "Were you injured in an accident? Did someone else cause the accident? That person may be responsible for the cost of the medical caare you received. We try to recover the costs of the medical care from that person and pay back your medical plan."
They enclosed a form which I have to fill out and return. The form has questions like, "Was treatment due to an auto accident? Medical malpractice? Work accident or injury? Was a police report made? Did you hire an attorney to represent you?"
Nice try, United Healthcare. I don't think anyone caused my breast cancer.

Preparations

Some of you may not know that I am a Harry Potter freak. I've read all the books multiple times, I have all the movies, which I watch about every 6 months. I even have the first book on tape.
So, the new HP movie comes out Wednesday, the Day of My Last Chemo. And I am not willing to wait to go see it till after I start feeling better from the last chemo. So the choice was between seeing the midnight showing at 12:01 am Wednesday, or the 10:00 am showing. I emailed Dragana, my Official Chemo Chauffeur, and she said she would go to the midnight showing with me, and then we would show up early for chemo the next day, so that she would have time to make it to her surgery at 3. Can you believe that? She's having surgery, and she still wants to drive me to chemo! AND go to a midnight movie the night before! What a woman! All this and a great cook, too!

Thursday

Lazed around in the morning, ate lunch at home, then went to the carousel mall, as part of the negotiation that I brokered on Tuesday when we went to the painting mall, despite DD1's expressed wishes.
We have a ton of tokens for the carousel, so the girls rode 4 times straight while I ate a little greek salad and read a book. (still "Quentins" by Maeve Binchy). Went to Target -- one of the anchors of the mall -- and then left. Carousel was closed for lunch, much to their chagrin.
DD2 went to her friend Nicholas' house to play, and DD1 was lonely, so we called those crazy Rosskey boys, who invited her over to play, as the prospect of coming over here and playing Barbies did not appeal.
I went to pick up DD1 around 5:30, and 3 or 4 parents were sitting out on the driveway, chatting while all the kids played. They live on a cul-de-sac, so they can do this. Apparently they sit out there every day from 4 to 6. To say I am envious doesn't even begin to express it. We live on one of the main drags of the subdivision and people speed on our street all the time, so it'd more of an iffy proposition to sit on our driveway. Anyway, I sat with them a few minutes and chatted. I'd brought Bella the Pooping Machine with me, so all the kids got a chance to hold the puppy. Of course I got bitten by forty squillion mosquitoes while I was out there, but I didn't care.
Heated up a readymade meal from Super Suppers that Renee had dropped by a few weeks ago -- Pecan Praline Chicken. Yummy.
Nicholas' mom dropped by a piece of cake that she and DD2 had made together that afternoon. Poor DD2 only got 1/4 of it, as we all wanted to share with her.

the 4th

Woke up, and my tshirt was wet with sweat. Nice.
We went to eat breakfast at IHOP, where the guy two booths over very nicely talked loudly enough so that we were able to quite easily enjoy his side of the conversation.
Went to Hobby Lobby afterward for some scrapbooking stickers. All their stickers were 50% off, so I bought a ton.
This evening we went to Robin's house for supper. We kind of called her up and invited ourselves over, as her daughter Katie is DD1's BFF, and she has a big back yard. Robin has the kind of house that, if House Beautiful called her up for a photo shoot, she could say, "Okay, come right on over." Just beautifully decorated. And tidy. Very tidy. I don't know where she keeps her clutter cuz I sure didn't see any. We all know that if House Beautiful were to call me up for a photo shoot of my house, I would just laugh and hang up.
We brought baked beans and devilled eggs over to Robin's. Mike made 36 devilled eggs, and they were all gone by the time we left. People love devilled eggs. They will be featured prominently at the Post Chemo Pool Party. The Rose family was there, and another family -- Robin's neighbors. They're Indian and had brought Indian onion rings. Very tasty.
Anyway, the kids got to wave some sparklers around, so they were happy. DD1 left at 8:30 with Katie's dad to go watch fireworks at the race track, and DH, DD2 and I got ice cream and went home. DH and DD2 sat outside and watched the neighbors set off fireworks. The skeeters love me, so I stayed inside and scrapbooked.
DD1 got home at 11, and insisted she was Not Tired. Fine, said I, but just put your pajamas on and brush your teeth so you're all ready for when you do get tired. She conked out about 10 minutes ago.
My feet are swollen again, so I'm going to take a Lasix and go to bed.

Tuesday

I saw my missionary friends, Yuri and Olga, in the morning, so they could give me an update on how things are in Moldova. Then the girls and I went to the mall. Which mall to go to became a big hoohah, as DD1 wanted to go to the mall with the doubledecker carousel, and DD2 wanted to to go the one with the place where you can paint ceramic things, and the pet store. I let them argue for about twenty minutes, and then made an executive decision to go to the painting one.
We ate in the food court, then they painted while I read "Quentins" by Maeve Binchy. I haven't read any of her stuff in a while, because it can be depressing. e.g. girls date inappropriate men and end up pregnant, yadayada.
Went to Penney's and used my $15 gift certificate on some new bras to replace the ones that became pink in the wash. Went to Macy's and bought a glass pitcher to contain the ice tea I'm going to be making with my new iced tea maker.
I gave the girls their choice of a dessert: 2 Godiva chocolates, a cookie, or some ice cream. DD2 picked Godiva, DD1 picked ice cream, I picked a cookie.
Scrapbooked in the evening for the first time since April, and then slept on the love seat so my swollen feet could be elevated.
The pain in my side is gone, praise God. Yay!

DD2 Day

We went to Chuck E. Cheese for about an hour and a half -- the perfect place: girls get to run around, I get to read. Then we went to the zoo from around 4 to 7 -- the perfect time: all the hordes of day camp children have gone. It was nice and cool, too. The only problem was I was so tired, I got really sleepy on the way home. I forgot to take the HOV kane, and there were 2 broken down cars on the way home, which slowed traffic down a lot. Good to be back home so I can put my poor swollen feet up.

Last Night

I didn't sleep well. Finally at 4:30, I went to the pharmacy to get something make things more, um, Fleet. Then swung by the all night drive-thru and got a hot, fresh breakfast burrito.
Today is DD2 day. She wants to go to the Children's Museum. I want to stay in bed all day and watch movies and sleep.

Update

Couldn't sleep last night, probably because I had a small Coke at 8 pm, to try and get rid of all the gas in my stomach. I don't know the difference between heartburn and acid indigestion, but the one that means you have lots of burps that burn on the way up, that's the one I have.
And things still haven't started moving, constipationally speaking. All that to say why I didn't go to church today.
Saw part of a movie this afternoon with a friend. I didn't read the reviews first, though, and it was really raunchy, so we walked out. Everyone else in the theater seemed to enjoy it, but we didn't. There was couple there with their young daughter. Who takes a child to an R-rated movie?
Went to Michael's and spent my bday money from Mom on scrapbooking stuff: pens, stickers, stamp pads and a full size paper cutter.
Got home, ate supper, and then DD2 dropped the puppy on the sidewalk on purpose. In her defense, she may not have realized that dogs can't do that land-on-your-feet thing like cats can. Then DD1 colored the puppy with chalk to make her more colorful. So we had stereo wailing for a while. It was loud.
I got to give the puppy a bath. She smells like coconuts now.

Feeling Better

Still have pain in my left side, but it's not bad. And my body appears to be in some sort of contest to see exactly how much methane gas it can produce....
