So I set up DD2 in my bed with a pot on the floor for vomiting purposes, and turned the TV on. Went into the front room, and lay down on the couch. I was just about asleep, when she calls me. She has thrown up again. Not in the pot. On the bed.
Sigh.
Strip the bed. DD2 sits on the floor to wait, and puts her hand in....dog poop.
Sigh.

A Crappy Day
Get the girls to school, then check email and surf. Around 9:45, I get up from the computer to go finish putting on my makeup, and drop off DD2's lunch and go to rads, and then see "Becoming Jane" with my good friend Deanna. I cross into DH's man cave on my way to the kitchen, and smell cat poop. Sure enough, Winston has left some liqueous deposits.
Sigh.
So, I go get the handheld wet vac and clean it up. The puppy thinks this is great fun. She is biting the cord, barking at the machine, the whole bit.
I put the machine away, wash my hands, and go to the bedroom to finally put on my makeup. I smell something, and at first I think it's just puppy gas, but no! She has left two large liqeous deposits in the bedroom. According to DH, apparently she got a bag of stale brownies out of the trash can last night, and was eating them.
So, not five minutes after cleaning up cat poop, I am cleaning up puppy poop. I pick her up to put her in her room, and she leaves another deposit on the way to the bathroom.
But that is ok. Because I am going to go see a movie with Deanna. I have been looking forward to seeing this movie all week long. And I can't expect every day to be sunshine and poop free.
So, I wash my hands after cleaning up the puppy poop, and go back to my makeup mirror to finally put on my makeup. The phone rings, and I can see from the Caller ID it is DD2's school, and I think, "Oh, they're calling to make sure I'm bringing her lunch."
So I pick up, and it's the school nurse. And DD2 has just thrown up, and could I come pick her up and take her home?
Waaaaaaahhhhh! So, no movie, obviously.
I picked her up, and went to rads, where the receptionist watched her in the waiting room while I got zapped.
Went by Super Suppers [this place that makes food and freezes it, so all you have to do is stick it in the oven. They change their menu every month, and they put their food on sale the last day of the month] and picked up 5 entrees. Swung by home, shoved them in the garage freezer, and went to Panera for lunch, as DD2 said she was feeling ok. So I bought her some chicken noodle soup, and myself a classic cafe salad with greek dressing and pecans.
She took a few bites of her soup, but they didn't stay down for long, so we headed home. I guess I should be grateful she didn't complete the theme and have diarrhea.....
Sigh.

Friday
Didn't sleep too well, so got up late. Took DD2 to school while I was still in my pajamas. Told DD1 to buy her lunch, and DD2 that I would deliver her lunch to her later.
Rads #5 today. I am going to Walmart to find Tom's of Maine deoderant or Crystal, neither of which have aluminum, so I can wear it during rads. I called the rads place yesterday and verified that I can't wear any traditional deoderant for the entire 6 weeks. My friend Deanna had thought maybe it was just before the treatment. No such luck. There's also the possible option of a deoderant stone, that my friend Erica suggested, so I will ask the rads techs today about that. I;m tired of being stinky!

Thursday
did the dishes and tidied a bit, rads#4, went to Target for some concealer, as i have these dark circles under my eyes, and i didn't want Chris to think i was going to keel over at any minute. had lunch with Chris the Invincible. She and her fam went on vacation a few weeks ago, and while they were gone, her house was burgled in a big way.
The good news is, the police know who the burglars were, as said burglars have not been paying attention to CSI, and the importance of leaving no DNA or epithelials at the scene.
And Chris says, it's just stuff. She and her DH and DS are fine. They are visiting the pawn shops regularly for some family jewelry, tho. And the thieves took stupid stuff, like letter jackets from 20 years ago. Why?
Anyway. By a happy coincidence, the store 2 doors down from the tea shop was having a clearance sale, and i got some white Brighton shoes to replace the Payless ones that make my feet hurt, a pair of jeans, and a dress.
Picked up DD2, went to the bank, and to celebrate the fact that I had only had fruits and vegetables so far that day, had a coke and a hot apple pie at Popeye's.
Jamaican Jerk chicken from Super Suppers for supper. The girls each had thirds.

Today
rads #3 was today. i bought some special cream to put over the affected area, to keep (i hope) it from getting red, flaky, itchy, etc. i also bought some baby powder made of cornstarch to replace the banned antiperspirant/deoderant. finally, i put all my underwire bras on a shelf in the closet, as i'm not supposed to wear them during rads tx. this left a grand total of...4. 4 bras, and some assorted camis from my pre-kids (read: perky) days.
so, between the do rags, and the very real possibility of not wearing a bra, i may really look like someone who has chosen an Alternate Lifestyle.

Actually Overheard At Library
Scene: the public library. It is quiet. A few soft murmurs can be heard, and the tapping of computer keys, but that is it.
(Cell phone rings.)
20ish Girl: (in normal-to-loud speaking voice) Hello? Yeah, did you get that done? I don't know if I...
Me: (interrupting) Shhhhhhhh!
20ish Girl: (softly) I've got to go. People at the library are being rude.

It's Snack Time
And I am eating almonds and drinking unsweetened ice tea.
what do I want to eat? bbq chips and a coke.

Tuesday
Dropped DD1 off at a friend's house to catch the bus, as I had a meeting at 8:15 at DD2's school.
Finished the meeting, worked out, swung by Popeye's to pick up lunch, and went back to DD2's school to have lunch with her. She goes to lunch at 10:50. Today and yesterday, rads were at 12:15. From tmrw on, they'll be at 10:30, so today was my last chance to have lunch with her for a while. She got to pick a friend to eat with us at the Parent Table: Alissa. Not to be confused with Elisa, who is in their same class. I made that mistake and was promptly corrected. Alissa is one of those cuties whotalksveryfastandaskslotsofquestions.
Alissa: Where do you live?
Me: We live in Wortham. Where do you live?
Alissa: Texas.
Left school, went to the school supply store to buy some scratch and sniff stickers for DD1's class. Went to Rads #2.
Waited for ~10 minutes. Whole process: ~ 30 minutes. Much less conversation between the techs today. Only problem was, I worked out this morning. And the rads people don't want you to wear deoderant. And my arm was over my head. Whew!

First Rads
Today was DD1's first day of school. We dropped DD2 off at 7:55, and then went back home, where we were in no hurry to get out to the bus stop, because the bus is ALWAYS late the first day.
ha! ha! the bus was ON TIME. we almost missed it. we were just coming out of the house and we saw it at the stop, so DD1 had to run for the bus on her very first day of 2nd grade. i got a hurried pic on the steps of the bus.
Went to DD1's school and helped out in 1st grade, sorting school supplies, and making sure everyone had a green transportation sticker on.
Left school around 11, went to Panera for a salad: calssic cafe with greek salad dressing and a whole grain baguette. Went from there to my first rads appt.
Sat in the waiting room and read for half an hour. They call my name, and I go to the room labled "Female Dressing", which I think is a funny name. I strip to the waist, and put on a gown. I am momentarily stymied, because my gown has 3 arm holes, and I don't have 3 arms. I finally figure out it's a wraparound kind of a deal. Then I walk to the "Female Waiting" room and wait. When it's my turn, I go into the rads room and lie down on the table (they call it a "couch", but it's made of metal and flat, and doesn't feature any accent pillows, so i'm calling it a "table".) I put my left arm over my head, and then ensues much discussion between the two techs. They are not talking to me. I have nothing to do, and I get kind of bored, so after a few minutes, I look at my watch, which I wear on my right arm. It is twisted so that I can't see it, so I use my left arm to adjust it. This causes all sorts of consternation for the techs, as apparently I was Not Supposed To Move.
They finally get me in the right place, and leave the room. I can't tell you what happened next, as I fell asleep.
Whole visit: 90 minutes.
And yes, I was tired, but this may be due to:
1) I didn't get a lot of sleep the night before
2) I've started working out on a regular basis.
3) I'm 45 and I have small children.

Rads
So, raditation starts tomorrow. I got at 12:15 Mon and Tues, and then 10:30 thereafter. I go for 32 or 33 tx, not sure, so I should be done by around October 12. I am anxous to get this show on the road!
A complete stranger came up to me today at church and handed me a hand-knit chemo cap. Her name was Teresa, and she said she'd hoped to see me today so she could give it to me. I was so touched -- how kind is that, to knit a cap for a complete stranger. I put the cap on right away, because a) it matched my outfit, and b) they keep that church cold.

This Has Nothing To Do With Anything
But years ago, a mall in my home town had a sign up that said, "Groups of 5 or more must disburse."
Uh. Isn't that the point of malls? For people to disburse?

Friday
Today was DD1 day, as it was her last free weekday before school starts. she had a friend sleep over, and they watched TV, did an experiment in the kitchen, watched DD2 in her class' umbrella parade, ate Japanese food, ate ice cream, and then met their respective 2nd grade teachers.
This evening, the 3 girls and I went to Beyond Bounce, a Pump It Up type of place. We ordered pizza and the girls played while I sat in the concession area and read.
There was a birthday party nearby, and the 5 YP bday girl got to go to the Prize Room and pick a prize. And she picked....a WHISTLE. Which she then blew loudly and with abandon periodically throughout the rest of the evening.

More Actual True Dialogue From My House
3 p.m.
ME: Ok, we're going to pick up Katie at 6, then go to the kindergarten round-up for your sister, then come home.
DD1: OK.
5 p.m.
Me: OK, I just talked to dad, and we're going to pick up Katie at 6, go eat at ChickFilA, then go to the kindergarten roundup, then come home.

Me: So, what kind of sandwiches do you want to carry in your lunch this school year? I know you like turkey. What else do you like?
DD1: Barbecue.

Let's Face It, I'm Just A Negative Person
got the results from the PET today -- negative for disease. the tech said the PET was very sensitive, and could pick up microscopic disease, and that i would have a PET every 6 months or year (depending on what the ins co would pay for).
So, negative is good!
I start rads Monday. Monday and Tuesday, I'll go at 12:15, then I can go at 10:30 after that.
I have worked out 4 days in a row now. This is my new life -- working out every day. Which, sigh, is fine. I really don't like it, but it's necessary. Not only to deter any future cancer [Exercise is the anti-cancer drug] but also so i can fit into my clothes again. Food has been tasting really, really good. So i eat until i'm full, and then just continue to eat.
I do show some self-control, tho. i was at the Y Tuesday, and it was one of the employees' birthday, and to celebrate, they brought in...a cake. Refined sugar, white flour, the whole bit. And offered it to us, as we left the gym. Uh, no thanks. I'd have to work out another hour to get rid of it.

Tusday Night
Picked DD2 up from school, went to the Y to work out, then the DDs and I went to the pool at the Y. i was a but shaky from exercising, so i ate some chex mix and read while they swam.
came home, had refrigerator parade for supper.
DD2 was in bed by 8:30, DD1 just a few minutes ago. Next week is going to be a big shock for her, when she has to go to bed by 8:30, too!
My muscles, they are sore.

Tuesday
Still haven't heard from the radiologist about the results of my PET or when rads will start.
Yesterday, picked DD2 up from school, and then went to the pool for 3 hours. It may rain later this week due to Hurricane Dean, so I wanted to get some pool time in. We biked there, which was a big mistake, as it was hot, and DD2 bikes really slowly, either due to her low muscle tone or something wrong with her bike, so i couldn't really ride, i had to just walk my bike behind her.
lazy day today, since i worked so hard yesterday. i'm still in my PJs.

Monday
Stayed up late last night tidying the house so Digna could clean it. This took longer than normal, as I still had stuff from our trip that I hadn't unpacked.
Someone tell me why the hair on my upper lip and legs is back, but the hair on my head is mostly MIA? This seems so unfair, as I don't WANT hair on my upper lip and legs.

This Weekend...
...is Tax Free Weekend, so DD1 and I dropped off DD2 at school, then went shopping for school clothes. We picked DD2 up at 11, and went to a birthday party (all of the kids going to public school around here don't start until 8/27), then did some more shopping. Got jeans and shoes, and we were done, except for panties and socks.
Had to special order school shoes for DD2, as she has her dad's feet -- extra wide.
Went to a hoohah at DD2's school Friday night. Pizza and lemonade, and lots and lots of speeches and announcements. The DDs were very bored, but determined to stay till the bitter end, as there was a 30' cookie cake awaiting.
Saturday, DH wanted to go shopping, so off we went again. We got the aforementioned pantied and socks at Target, but DH wanted to go to the mall. By the time we got home Saturday afternoon, all I wanted to do was lie down and watch TV and hopefully fall asleep, as my feet and back were sore.
Sunday, we went to church and to lunch, and then....to Academy Sports Store for more...shopping, as DH wanted to get some new tennis shoes.

I. Am. So. Tired.
Went to be around 11 last night, and woke up at 5. Not that I set the alarm, or anything, but my body decided that this would be a good time to wake up and not be able to fall asleep again. So, I got up, tidied the kitchen, did the dishes, and made Chex mix.
So here it is 6:30, and I am already tired.

Thursday
Got up, took DD2 to school, from school to the Y to work out (where it had been so long since i'd been there, they'd deactivated my account where i keep track of the calories burned, etc.), from the Y to the surgeon's ofc, where DD1 and i waited ~45 minutes for a 5 min appt. from the dr's ofc to lunch, from lunch to the bowling alley where i dropped off DD1 so she could bowl with some friends from church. i went to see The Bourne Ultimatum. picked up DD1, and then picked up DD2. we then went to the new Christian book store to buy some Christian t-shirts for DD2. on Fridays at school, she can wear jeans and a Christian t-shirt. and we didn't have any, so i needed to buy some. while i was there, i bought Second Chapter of Acts' hymn compliation, and The Bible Experience -- an audio book of the New Testament with different African American actors voicing different parts. i listened to part of it on the way home. it's produced well -- much more interesting than listening to one guy say the whole thing.
whew! i still need to make a sugar cookie cake for DD2's school celebration tomorrow night.

Appliance Woes
DH and I finally figured out last night that our fridge was leaking, right at the filter. He tried tightening it, and turning the water off, but it still leaked enough overnight to fill a bucket. So I called ARS.
Guy comes out, tightens the fitting and adds a bit of Teflon tape. That'll be $65, ma'am.

First Day of K'garten and the PET Scan
I didn't sleep well last night, so i didn't wake up till about 7:15, which put us behind the eight ball in terms of getting DD2 to k'garten by 8. at least i'd already signed her up for a hot lunch. we ended up being about ten minutes late, since we couldn't find a parking spot. we walk her in to her class, where the teacher was already reading a story. we took some pics and some video and then left.
she is holding the dinosaur she made at BuildABear yesterday. i told her she was allowed to have a stuffed animal at rest time, so she took Dinah along in her back pack.
after dropping DD2 off, we went to a local coffee house, where DH had a white chocolate mocha, DD1 had a smoothie, and i had a bottle of water. then to Target, and then off i went to the PET scan.
it wasn't as bad as i had feared. she had trouble finding a good vein to stick for the radioactive stuff, but after that was over, i got to sit and read my Elizabeth Young novel for an hour to let the radioactive stuff do its thang. the actual PET scan itself took about 30 minutes, and i dozed for the first half of it, and then hummed hymns for the rest. i had to lie still, with my left arm over my head.
and i just want to tell you. when you have to lie perfectly still? your nose will itch. or your brow bone. or both.
the blue thing is the molded thing i told you about on Monday. it apparently is called a cradle.
so, got done with that, and then went to lunch at Barton Springs Grill with DH and DD1. i ordered the white cheese nachos as an appetizer. i am normally not an appetizer girl, but i wanted food quickly, if not sooner.
i had their spinach salad. it is a lovely salad with tomatoes, HB egg, avocado, mushrooms, carrots and spicy pecans.
back to Target, as i was almost out of contact solution, and then to DD2's school to pick her up. she said she had a great day. i asked her if there was anything sad about her day, or anything that she didn't like, and she said no. So, this is a good thing.
On the way home, i told her she could have grapes or strawberries for a snack. however, i had a brownie for my snack. she came across me eating my brownie, and said, "You didn't tell me I could have a brownie!" D'oh!
What Is a PET Scan, Anyway?
It stands for Positron Emissions Testing.
A PET scan involves the acquisition of images based on the detection of radiation from the emission of positrons. Positrons are tiny particles emitted from a radioactive substance administered to the patient.
PET scans are used to detect cancer and to examine the effects of cancer therapy by characterizing biochemical changes in the cancer.

I'll be injected with a small amount of radioactive material. Then I'll have to lie still (!) for about 45 minutes to allow the radioactive stuff to go where it's going to go. Then I'll go into this machine which will take pictures of my torso for another 45 minutes or so. I just hope I can listen to my Ipod or read a book or sing or something to entertain myself....

Tuesday
Today was DD2 day, as tmrw is her first day of school. In the morning, we got out the school supplies and checked off what we had against the list. Could not find the orange construction paper and drawing pencils, and was a bottle of glue short, so headed to Office Depot and Michael's. Then, the plan was, we were to go to Beyond Bounce. Cost: $8 plus pizza and drinks and snacks. We were going to hang out there until time for Open House at DD2's school down the street.
But no. On the way to Office Depot, DD2 says, "It's too bad I can't go to BuildA Bear or sumpin for my day."
And, since I try to be honest with my kids, I say, "Well, last year your sister went to BuildABear for her day. But if you do that, that's all we're going to do."
DD2: OK! Let's go to BuildABear!
Dang it.
So, we got the few remaining school supplies, went to Souper Salad for lunch (DD2's idea!) where a lady came up to me and commended me for my bravery. (I guess for going around bald or whatever.) I told her no one in their right mind would wear a wig in triple digit weather.
Then, we trekked to Memorial City Mall, where DD2 built a dinosaur. DD1 was under the impression she would get to build an animal as well, but I quickly disabused her of that notion.
They rode the carousel, and DD1 played in the dancing fountain outside the mall a few minutes, and then we went to the uniform store nearby, where I needed to exchange a couple of DD2's new uniforms.
And it was jam-packed with people. An hour wait to get served. No thank you!
Then we zipped over to the Open House, bringing along the 3 sacks of school supplies. DD2 got to meet a couple of her new classmates, which may have reconciled her to the lack of a guinea pig in the classroom.

The Pink Envelope Project
Some of you who weren't available to come to the party may still want to contibute to the Pink Envelope Project of the Making Memories Breast Cancer Foundation. The Making Memories Breast Cancer Foundation grants wishes to women who have been diagnosed with stage 4 terminal breast cancer, like going to Disney World one last time with their kids, or getting a new computer so someone can research her disease.

Monday
Tidied the kitchen so Digna could clean it.
(And uh, just a word for the wise. If you ever have a pool party, and there are a few devilled eggs left over? Don't be lazy and leave them in the van for 24 hours. Especially if it's August. Not that DH and i would ever be that stupid, of course... )
Then went to my radiologist appt. Whole thing took two hours. Lot of waiting, then answering questions from a nurse, then waiting for the dr, then answering his questions. He explained a bit about rads to me, most of which i already knew.
And another word to the wise. If you have a dr's appt? Don't take your kids, especially if they're talkative. i had one DD asking the dr how many webkinz his daughter had, and the other DD wanting everyone to play Simon Says.
So, after we chatted, i changed into a gown, and the dr took a sharpie and drew lines and Xs on my left breast.
then i got to go see the rads tech, who had me lie on this cushiony thing on an exam table. she molded the cushiony thing around me, and then i had to lie still with my left arm above my head for a while and the machine above me did something.
when i got to sit back up, the cushiony thing had turned hard and was basically molded to my shape.
i have to have a PET scan. i suggested Friday. she said that's too late. DH is taking wednesday off, since it is DD2's 1st day of k'garten, so i said Wednesday, around 10. We're going out to b'fast that day, and i've had a CAT scan, so i figured a PET scan must be like a CAT scan, right? a cat is a pet, after all...
so she calls and schedules me for 10 on Wednesday, and THEN she says I can't eat for 4 hours beforehand, and it'll take two hours. What? What is it with the medical professionals getting between me and my food? and? TWO HOURS? are you KIDDING me? am i going to have to lie still for two hours?
also, i am now officially a tattooed woman. they have to give you teeny little tattoos so they can line up the machine to the right spot or whatever.
after the rads appt, i rushed home, picked up my makeup and some black clothes, and swung by the drive thru for some food for the DDs and me, and then took off for Missouri City, Texas. the DDs and i, by God's grace, were getting our pictures taken for a BC Survivor Calendar that the local Susan G Komen foundation sponsors, and the photog lives and works in Missouri City.
(All the people in the pics wear black, and the pics are taken against a black background.) Took me an hour to get there, mostly because my Yahoo Map told me wrong.
Got our pics taken, chatted with the photog a while, and then headed home. Got lost again. Ended up in Sugarland. Called my friend Deanna, who has lived here all her life, and can get me home from anywhere.
Got home, cooked dinner, went to DD2's orientation. Was late, as parking lot was jam packed. Ended up making my own parking spot, as others had done before me...DD2 is a bit disappointed that there is no guinea pig in her classroom...

I Rejoiced When They Said Unto Me....
Went to church this morning. It felt really good to spend time in worship. And! DD2's Sunday School class
a) decorated "We Miss You" postcards for me
b) autographed a pink hat for me
c) decorated sugar cookies for me
SO sweet! Of course, the cookies are LOADED with frosting and sprinkles -- at least a 50/50 ratio cookie to frosting...
Went to eat at Sweet Tomatoes afterward (which is a fabulous salad bar restaurant where I have seen nary a living thing in my salads....). It was mondo bz. The first thing you can get on the salad bar is caesar salad, which I usually snack on as I make my way down the salad bar. I usually get about halfway thru eating the caesar salad before I have to pay at the end of the bar. I finished all of the caesar salad today before I even got halfway down the salad bar.
Then to Macy's to pick up some juice glasses, and shorts for DD2 to wear under her jumpers, and then home to chat with Leon for a while before he left for St. Louis.
Feet are still swollen, and I can't fit into any of my regular shoes yet, so I wore my beloved Skechers sandals, which are looking a bit manky.....

Party!
The BuhBye Chemo Party was a rousing success, despite being really hot for the first two hours. We had about 30 people come, but they came in waves, so we got a chance to talk to everyone. People came and ate, chatted, swam -- it was fun! The kids pretty much spent the whole time in the pool, except for safety breaks, when they ate.
We ended up staying until 9, when the pool closed. At the end, it was just us and the Gaus and the Rosskes and Leon, sitting around and talking.
Of course, I was fine while the party was going on, but then i got home and i was just exhausted, feet throbbing, etc. We all took showers, and then went to bed.
My only chagrin was there was some beloved 7 layer dip left, but after it sat out for 4 hours, i couldn't keep it and snack on it....

Saturday, er, that is, Friday
Took Bella TPM to the vet for her third round of shots. DH took the day off to spend with us, so he tagged along. Having DH around all day kept making me think it was Saturday all day. Not the Saturday of the party, but, you know, the first Saturday of the week....
Came home, and then Leon, my friend who lives in St. Louis who flew in for the party, came by, so we went to lunch at Ninfa's, as apparently good Mexican food is hard to come by in St. Louis. He is a single guy, so I warned him that our lives are not very exciting. And to prove the point, after lunch, we went to Costco! Woohoo! I just bought a fridge for the garage, so i at last have freezer and fridge space for the stuff at Costco. Plus I needed to buy stuff for the party.
Came home, loaded up the fridge and freezer, went to Party City for tablecloths and plates, and then came home and took a nap. Leon went to his hotel -we had offered him a couch, but i think he thought this house had enough sentient beings....
in the evening, we ate PeiWei, and then the girls watched Pokemon in the bedroom, and the guys and i watched "Hot Fuzz", which was cute, but gory at the most unexpected times. i started falling asleep towards the end.
leon left for his hotel, and i went to the bedroom to discover both girls asleep on our bed. i tried to scoot them aside, but nothing doing, so i slept in DD1's bed, and DG slept in DD2's bed.

Are You Kidding Me?
So, I don't know when they went on sale, because I checked a few weeks ago, but I just checked, and Hannah Montana will be in Houston on November 11th, and the only tickets avlbl are FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS. There are some avlbl in San Antonio or Ft Worth for TWO HUNDRED.
Are you kidding me?
DD1 loves Hannah Montana, but there is no way.
OK, now i find out that tickets will go on sale 8/18 with prices from $26 to $66. i just hope i'm one of the lucky few to get tickets at face value.

Pink Envelope Project
The BuhBye Chemo Party is Saturday, and i hope you can make it, it'll be a lot of fun. I'm also going to have pink envelopes there. There's a charity that basically grants wishes to women who have Stage 4 breast cancer, and I will have pink envelopes at the party, so if people want to donate, they can. Or they can just take an envelope and donate later. There are a lot of cancer charities out there, but this one touched my heart, as it benefits people in a tangible way.
Thursday
Woke up at 6:30 starving, but the girls didn't wake up till 8. Ate at the b'fast buffet, which! had one of those cool waffle machines, where you make your own waffles in the shape of Texas. Had a waffle and a banana. I'm normally a scrambled egg girl, but there were some scary scambled "eggs" in that buffet. Kind of watery and solid at the same time.
The girls played in the pool for half an hour, then we went to Emily's house for a couple of hours. We left her house at 1:47. It took us an hour to get out of the DFW metroplex. I was really tired so I had 3 cokes in a row, plus some bottles of water, so I had to stop for some potty breaks along the way, walking very carefully...
Got home close to 7. DH very happy to see us, as were the cats and dog.
So, last week, on the way to Dallas, I suddenly remember I'd forgotten to pack my Lasix, the water pill which keeps down the swelling in my feet. I call CVS and order a refill. They promise to call the onc. In the meantime, I go by the Coppell CVS and the pharmacist very nicely gives me 7 pills to tide me over. Fine. I ran out yesterday. So, on the way to Dallas, I call CVS again, and THE ONC HASN'T OKAYED THE REFILL. The pharmacist says she'll give them another call, and I call and leave a message saying if they don't want me to have the Lasix, please call me back so we can discuss alternate ways to keep the swelling in my feet down....
I call CVS today, and lo and behold, the prescription has been refilled, just as I'm getting into town.....

Wednesday
Was spent driving from Wichita to Dallas. We stopped in Moore, OK for lunch and ice cream. I was wiped out by the time we got to the hotel, which may explain why at first we went to the Wyndham instead of the Wingate Inn by Wyndham. My bad!
The girls played in the pool for a while, then we went out for BBQ, then they swam some more. Back to the hotel room, watched Dr Phil a bit, then to sleep.

I'm WAITING
So, I bought the follicle booster yesterday, and one can apply it to one's scalp up to twice a day. So, I've applied it like 3 or 4 times already. And I keep running my hands over my scalp, just waiting for all those little follicles to go into overdrive. Come on! You've been on vacation since Easter! Get back to work already!
Hmmmm
So, my friend Destini, who is a fellow BC survivor, told me about this photographer who does a calendar every year of BC survivors who are moms of young kids. she gave me the photog's number, and i called, and the DDs and I are supposed to get our pic taken monday the 13th.
the only thing is, i'm supposed to write down some pearls of wisdom for the calendar.
Uh.
The minute she asked for that, my mind immediately went blank, and trust me, it wasn't a big process for it to go blank.

Hot Hot Hot
It is hot in Kansas in August, just in case u were wondering. 99 degrees. Stand outside for any length of time and you start sweating.
Lazed around the house this morning, reading a trashy romance novel. packed a bit. my niece Laura and her BF Andy showed up around noon, and we went to Cinnamon's Deli again. Wichita has more restaurants than that, but Laura and DD1 love Cinnamon's.... i had the veggie sandwich, cream of broccoli soup, and we all shared a piece of Snicker's cheesecake.
Went to the carousel mall afterward so the DDs could ride the carousel.
Feet are still swollen, fatigue is still there, probably exacerbated by the heat.
Bapa: So, for breakfast tomorrow, you can have cereal, or toast, or eggs and bacon, or fruit.
DD2: You know, Bapa, I really like pancakes.

Monday
Woke up at 4 am, then went back to sleep after 7, and woke up again at 10. i hope my body doesn't do this once school starts. that would not be good.
ate lunch at a little mom and pop shop called MIF Deli. they have these fabulous bierocks there. DD1 had a ckn pot pie, DD2 a meat and cheese pie, and i had a bierock and a fattoush salad. yummy.
went shopping: to Von Maur for a Nat Nast shirt for DH. (think the kind of shirts Charlie Sheen wears on 2 1/2 Men) and a bracelet and earrings for me. i'm not buying a lot of clothes for me right now, as i intend to get back in the gym once i get home, and don't intend to be this size very long.
went to the candy store so DD2 could spend the dollar Bapa had given her. to the hair salon to buy some follicle stimulator, and to the scrapbooking store to buy some stickers.
went out to supper with the parents to a local restaurant and brewery. i drove, so i couldn't have a beer, but i did have a flatbread pizza, which was fabulous.
going to go to bed early, though....i am pooped!

Sunday
Woke up at 5 and then went back to sleep at 6:30, then awake again at 9:30. went to church with the girls, then out to eat -- i had a chopped salad, which was ok. it came dressed, and they had used too much dressing IMHO, which kind of defeats the purpose of eating a salad, esp since the dressing was mayo based.
When we got back to the house, my sis and her family were there already, and then later on, my cousin Patty and her DH showed up for about an hour.
You'll be proud of me: for supper i had cucumbers, watermelon, canteloupe, and salad. of course i was hungry again after about 90 minutes.....

Saturday
Went shopping with mom and the girls in the morning, then ate at Cinnamon's Deli for lunch. They have the most fabulous soup in a bread bowl and sandwiches. I just had soup, as bathroom issues were arising again.
Shopped a bit more afterward. Went to see my niece Laura at her job at American Eagle, then drove back to the parents' house and took a nap.
My sister, nieces, daughters and I went to see "Underdog" at 4:30 -- cute movie.
Normally when I'm at my parents' house, i stay up till 12 or 1 scrapbooking or watching movies or both. I was in bed by 10:30 last night, and didn't get up until 9. I did wake up at 5, and had some cauliflower and celery with peanut butter ( i need to eat lots of fruits and vegetables these days, for the cancer-fighting phytochemicals they contain), but then went back to sleep around 5:30. I could go for a nap now, to tell you the truth.

A Few Notes
A few notes from my trip so far:
i went into the bathroom at Grandy's in Dallas, and a lady followed me in, and asked if she could pray with me. i thot that was really cool. i was very touched.
i sat by a lady today in church, and we were talking a bit, and she gave me a bracelet that said "hope" on it. she said i could pass it on to someone else when i no longer needed it.
People can be so kind...

Chemo SE Update
Fatigue is still there. I slept until 9 this morning.
And my feet are still swollen. I tried wearing tennis shoes yesterday, and my feel had all these red marks on them when I took the shoes off.
Bathroom issues have died down, praise God.

Funny Quote
I'm reading the news on the Internet, and DD1 is reading over my shoulder.
Headline: Democrats Reject Spy Bill
DD1: Who's "Spy Bill"?

Greetings from Wichita
The girls and I are here for a few days to see my family. DD2's school starts August 15th, so we don't have much time. We drove to Dallas Wednesday, and spent time with my friend Emily and her family Wednesday and Thursday, and then drove to Wichita today, fueled by Coke.
We ate at Toby Keith's restaurant for lunch in OKC. This is not a place to go if you want to eat healthy. The only salads they feature are small side salads (2). The only veggies they offer are cooked with bacon or cream, or both. Heavy on the fried food, the pork and the beef. Plus, they feature a fried baloney sandwich!
I got DH a t-shirt that said Who's Your Daddy? I tried to get one for me that said White Trash With Money, but oddly enough, they were out of the XL....

Tuesday
Still really tired. Rested in the morning, then ran pre-trip errands in the afternoon. The garage fridge was supposed to arrive between 5 and 7, so while DD2 was in her 4 pm social skills class, I went home and cleared out a corner of the garage so the delivery guys could have a path to deliver the fridge. It was 92 degrees. I was sweating like a big dog. Luckily, thanks to my hot flashes, I am used to sweating like a big dog.
Fridge arrived at 7:30, but we needed an extension cord, so we went to Target so i could get an extension cord, and DH could get the DVDs of "Hot Fuzz" and "The 300".
Now I get to go to Costco and buy lots of frozen food! I've never bought much there before because I haven't had the space. Today is Fill Your Freezer day at Super Suppers, so I'm going to swing by there and buy some stuff.
I'm told that the main SEs of radiation are your skin turning red, and fatigue, so I'm going to rely heavily on frozen food.
